How to make money online

We’ve all felt the impact of the economy, and many of us are feeling the strain on our finances. Fortunately, there are several ways to boost your earnings. Here are five ways to make money online in South Africa.

1. Set up E-commerce Shop

One of the greatest blessings in our modern era is the internet and the boom of the eCommerce industry, especially post-COVID. You can make money by opening an online shop and selling a product or by selling on third party like Takealot or Amazon. It’s crucial to research what to sell and identify the exact market for your product.

Tip: Don’t try to create a market for a product; instead, sell a product that already has a market. This approach reduces risk.

How to Set Up an Online Store:
You can either buy a domain and set up a simple WordPress store, which will cost you around R80 per month. Once your shop is set up, you can run Google/Facebook ads to boost your revenue. It may take some time to build trust around your store, so try promoting on TikTok as well, as people want to see something before purchasing online. This was the case with my online store, Peace Home.

2. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is one of the most misunderstood ways of making money online. Companies will pay you a commission for every sale made through your channel. To be successful, you’ll need some sort of online audience or you can run Google and Facebook ads. One of the best affiliate programs in South Africa is Travelstart, where you can earn up to R120 per booking.

3. Lead Generation

This is something I am trying out myself. Many tradespeople and professionals are looking for clients, and you can generate leads for these people and get paid. A good example of companies doing this is Mega Leads.

4. Get an Online Job

An online job is also a good way to make money. Look for jobs in the USA or Europe and get paid in dollars or euros. The best platform to look for online jobs in Skip the drive.

5. Sell Courses

Selling online courses requires you to be skilled in something. Identify what you are an expert in and create content around that. You can sell your course online by joining learning platforms like Udemy or by promoting your own course, as many do on YouTube.

In summary, there is no quick way to make money unless it’s something super shady. Stay clean and don’t let the pursuit of money push you to the dark side. I was once tempted to do so. If there’s something I might have missed, please share it in the comments below.
