Breaking News: The South African police anti-kidnapping task team has successfully arrested 14 suspects.

The South African Police Services’ (SAPS) anti-kidnapping task team in Gauteng province achieved a significant breakthrough by apprehending 14 suspects in Greenstone Park and Sandton, Johannesburg, yesterday.

Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe stated that the suspects, which included three Chinese nationals and two Mozambicans, allegedly kidnapped a Zimbabwean businessman near his workplace on Sunday. The anti-kidnapping task team, with the assistance of other SAPS units and private security partners, successfully located the victim unharmed at an address in Diepkloof, Soweto.

The operation resulted in the arrest of eight suspects at an apartment in Greenstone Park, while the remaining suspects were apprehended in Sandton. Among the items seized were multiple speed point machines, a significant amount of cash withdrawn from the victim’s bank account, and two firearms—one of which was reported stolen during a house robbery in Linden in 2023.

In recent months, SAPS has been actively disrupting kidnapping syndicates that target businessmen for ransom.
